Florida State (@3.6) vs Virginia (@1.3)

Our Prediction:

Virginia will win

Florida State – Virginia Match Prediction | 14-09-2019 19:30

The Noles starting quarterback has the legs to give the Hokies serious problems, and we know how much of a problem it has been in the past for Virginia Tech. He is not the most accurate passer, however, and is coming off a bad knee injury so his mobility might be limited which should help the defense out. Defensively, Foster needs to devise a method to contain Francois in the pocket.

Virginia had no trouble picking up Tony Bennetts 300th career win and the Cavaliers cruised to victory in the 2nd half after taking a 50-25 halftime lead. Virginia shot 53.2% from the field and outrebounded Marshall by a 45-23 margin in the victory. The 4th ranked Virginia Cavaliers stayed perfect on the season, improving to 12-0 (0-0 ACC) on the season after defeating the Marshall Thundering Herd, 100-64, this past Monday. Leading the way for the Cavaliers was Kyle Guy who had 30 points & 8 rebounds.

Even with some good backs in place running behind this line, the Hokies have to prove they can consistently crank out yards they have to get to at least four yards per carry, and thats not a given. Its a decent Hokie line, but its not a killer, and it has to prove it can be dominant at times for the ground game.

The offense is in better shape with seven starters returning, but both of its all-conference selections from last season are gone. It has become very difficult to imagine a Virginia Tech team with a losing record, given that the program hasn't had a sub-.500 season since 1992, but this year's outfit will need to overcome significant obstacles to reach the Hokies' usual level of excellence.

Virginia is 22-1 overall, 11-0 in the ACC and 15-4-1 against the spread. The Cavs are 8-1-1 against the spread in their last 10 games. Virginia continued its dominant run lately, picking up a 59-44 win at Syracuse last weekend. UVA is putting up just 68.7 points per game on offense, but holding opponents to only 52.3 per game. Kyle Guy is leading Virginia with 15.5 points per game while Devon Hall is adding 12.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest.

Im not really sure whats going to happen. Not as far apart as the wizards of the desert think it is, but it being home field sure counts for something. For the sake of it being a home game at FSU, Id say that, much to my chagrin, the Noles win something like 34-28 or something to that effect.

But Virginia Tech was 16th in the country in run defense in 2017, and while the defense as a whole experienced serious attrition this offseason, all starters but one return along an excellent defensive front. The strength of FSU's offense is a rushing attack led by Cam Akers, who was a rare bright spot for the team last season with more than 1,000 yards on the ground in his freshman campaign. There's certainly an argument to be made for the Hokies keeping this one close.

Emory Hunt is 7-1 on Florida State games and just locked in a pick for Monday

Virginia Tech isnt receiving a whole lot of love or attention on a national scale considering Clemson has been handed the ACC Championship already by many, Miami is the hot program, and FSU just made the big coaching switch but Justin Fuente has another good, strong team with the talent to at least get to the ACC title game for the second time in three seasons.

Virginias offense will have its hands full with the Florida State defense, however, the Cavaliers do a good job of not turning the ball over and as I think the trio of Guy, Hunter, & Jerome will be able to put some points up on the board, I think Virginia gets revenge from last years home loss and does enough to cover this spread. Florida State was able to pull off the upset at Virginia last seasonand although I think the Seminoles are a better team this season, I really like what Ive seen on both ends of the court by the Cavaliers so far this season. Take Virginia to cover.

The Seminoles are seven-point favorites, the same as where the line opened at many outlets. But they came up short of a repeat trip last year, felled by back-to-back losses at Miami and Georgia Tech. Junior cornerback Levonta Taylor will be charged with leading the youth-heavy secondary. More importantly, he has been locked in on the tendencies of the Seminoles, with an incredible 7-1 spread record in their games over the past two seasons. Josh Jackson returns at quarterback following a solid but sometimes unsteady campaign as a true freshman. ET when they host the Virginia Tech Hokies in a prime-time showcase. Taggart named Francois the starter last week. Anyone who has followed him is up big. The defense is young and inexperienced and could start as many as five sophomores. Secondary standouts Derwin James and Tarvarus McFadden have moved on to the NFL. The over-under for total points scored is 55, up from an initial offering of 50 after heavy action on the over. FSU lost to Alabama, 24-7, in their season-opener last year.Meanwhile, Hunt also knows the Hokies are looking to vault back into contention for the ACC championship after they reached the title game in Fuente's first season.
